TACOMA, WASHINGTON - On Saturday, June 11, thousands of community members will compete in the 50th annual Sound as the Narrows competition in Tacoma. After two years of running events, this year's event returns to Vasso Park with something for everyone, from the state's oldest 12K run for all ages to a 20-yard diaper sprint for kids run.

“Sound to Narrows has been an incredible community event for 50 years and we are proud to support it,” said Executive Director Florence Chang. "Being able to celebrate this important anniversary with a human event makes this year special and many of us - myself included - look forward to being there on match day."

All proceeds from Sound to Narrows will go to the Healthcare Student Academy (M.A.S.H.) camp. Formerly known as Nurse Camp, this free five-day camp introduces high school students to the field of healthcare. Students work with medical professionals from different sectors to witness first-hand the diverse world of healthcare.

Admission to the 12K or 5K starts at $45 for adults and $10 for children and includes a 50th anniversary T-shirt, runner and Sound to Narrows prizes. There is a $5 registration fee for students participating in Fit for Sound to Narrows 2K. A virtual option will be available again this year for those who want to attend but don't feel ready for a large human event. Registration for the virtual run is $30 and includes bib number, t-shirt and finisher medal.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at North Vassau and 37th Street in Tacoma, with each event starting at 7:30 a.m. with a 12K walk. Awards ceremony will be held and attended at 9:45 am. Programs will not be eligible for prizes.
